From the VASCD President & Executive Director Laurie McCullough, Executive Director Virginia ASCD Joe Douglas, President Virginia ASCD (2016-2018) We are biased, to be sure. We think that VASCD is the best professional learning resource for Virginia educators. Here's why. We put students first. VASCD is a statewide network of educators who agree that Virginia's students should benefit from a well-rounded, "whole child" education. We have high aspirations for the Commonwealth's children, and it's not just because we know they will be our nurses, mechanics, lawyers, and police officers one day. It's because they deserve it. Our programming, our ongoing efforts in the policy arena, and our members' work in their own schools and communities consistently reflect the student-centered approach we value so highly. We are inclusive and diverse. We understand that role-specific professional groups, designed to meet the needs of classroom teachers or principals or superintendents, are important and serve a vital purpose. VASCD's membership includes teachers, superintendents, professors, building leaders, teacher education students, and central office leaders.
