Writing Pathways: Performance Assessments and Learning Progressions by Lucy Calkins Calkins does it again! She shares deep, clear, doable steps in support of teaching and learning. Writing Pathways provides clear background, guidance, and resources for teachers K-9 (and beyond) can use immediately as part of their work. Organized in two parts, one about the assessment system and the other with the assessment tools, the book is written for practitioners from practitioners. She starts with a letter to teachers. I read it as if I was still a classroom teacher teaching writing and it "spoke" clearly to me. This is a reference resource that can be read, reviewed, and used at any point in time. From the letter: "How can we help students meet the new expectations in writing? By offering you this ...we put the results of three decades of work into your hands." The About the Assessment section consists of nine chapters that read like a How and Why of and for writing assessment across curriculum content areas. A great deal of information about why feedback and performance assessments enhance Book Review Review by Michael Lubelfeld Click the cover to view on Amazon.
