Karin Noyes polymer clay interview by cindy marks
Walking into Karin Noyes' booth at the Baltimore Craft Show, I was struck by this Energy of Color and everywhere I looked, I saw mandalas. Oh wait... they were actually bowls, hung in abundant display on the walls. Karin wasn't waiting alone for customers - her booth had several interested parties - so I spoke to her for just a moment about the WOW factor of her work, the effects I was noticing on my own psyche and that I'd like to be in touch later for an interview. She was friendly, enthusiastic and very down-to-earth; almost pragmatic. Refreshingly not what I'd begun imagining as the personality behind these energy circles dancing before my eyes.
When our May magazine began coming together with a spiritual focus, I thought to give Karin a call. I laughingly started the conversation by letting her know the company she'd be keeping in the issue and saying "Look, if this seems like I'm crazy, stretching here about my ideas on some woo-woo factor within your art, just let me know." She graciously laughed in return and said, "You know, I frequently feel like they build themselves. I'll be sitting there in my studio and a piece just jumps out. 'Me next!'"
