Thanks to researching Scott's work and his own glowing reviews, we discovered two really wonderful artists' spaces we'd like to share with readers. One of the first places Scott showed RTTB was at San Francisco's Exploratorium. In looking at their website, we found an impressive array of collaborators and exciting MAKE opportunities as part of their Tinkering Studio. Coming up on April 21, it's the next Open Make, a monthly creative extravaganza. We hope to be out on the West Coast soon and catch one of these! The second find, to which we were able to roadtrip for a visit in person, was Baltimore's American Visionary Art Museum. Scott encouraged us to go check it out and offered to send along introductions to Rebecca Hoffberger, the museum founder (and, we discovered, very active executive manager.) To say that we were blown away by the museum would still be an understatement. The building itself, Rebecca, her staff, and every item within, were absolute magic. The respect and care given to the Visionary Artists' work while at the same time creating an atmosphere of approachability and fun, could not have made a more perfect presentation. It was easy to learn, admire and exclaim over every piece and the main building was brimming with work. Two other buildings, connected by sculpture gardens, house more interactive pieces and play host to an outdoor movie theatre. A large upcoming event for the museum, The Kinetic Sculpture Race, would be a great time to visit if you're considering the area. 21
