From the MaineASCD President Our Maine ASCD Board of Directors is pleased to provide our membership with our first digital edition of Journal of Maine Education. anks to the excellent work of JME editor Lee Anna Stirling and the editorial board, this edition provides the high quality professional articles readers have come to expect from our publication. In addition, Cindy Marks from Catstone Press has thoughtfully guided us into the digital world and we are grateful for her expertise in this area. is endeavor will enable us to connect with readers and passionate educators throughout the world, as we continue our professional growth journey. As an organization, our mission of providing leadership in shaping, energizing and customizing learning for Maine educators remains a catalyst for our board conversations and actions. Our social media presence has provided us with a forum to support educators on a more frequent basis. In addition, we have connected with so many amazing educators and who have their own stories and strategies to share. If you have not already, please join the conversation on Twitter @MaineASCD. In the area of advocacy, Maine ASCD has been a leader in providing professional development and resources that support Maine's Title 20-A Section 4722-A (proficiency-based diplomas). Our Pathways to Proficiency series will continue this year, as we partner with Diana Doiron at the Maine Department of Education and offer professional development related to the new K-12 Learning Progressions for Maine's Guiding Principles. Although we have always supported ASCD's Whole Child approach, we need to do more to advance a healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged learning opportunity for each child. is MARY BELLAVANCE
