Volume XXXI - Page 109 - 2015 TEACHER EVALUATION e Power of Reflection It used to happen, formally, once every three years. I would choose a date, a time, and a lesson that would really 'wow' the principal. I would prepare the lesson well in advance to ensure I had everything in order, for said lesson…papers, books, pencils, other materials as needed, etc. I couldn't wait for the day to come and to be done with. e principal arrived…sat in the back of the classroom. e clipboard came out… checkmarks applied in little boxes - Excellent, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement. A comment box was provided for comments if necessary…or not. e principal stayed for twenty to thirty minutes and le. No feedback was given on lesson presentation or classroom management. Hopefully, everything went well. Later, an envelope, placed in my mailbox, notified me with a checklist of my 'teaching capabilities' and possibly a short comment. Please sign, date, and return to the principal's office. Phew! at was done for another three years! THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW. I choose a time, a lesson, and a pre-conference meeting date with the principal. e date of the lesson/evaluation is now scheduled for the same week, every year. I have so much more to think about and plan for now than I did fieen plus years ago. With which of the fourteen Professional Performance Standards will I align the lesson? How does the lesson align with the Common Core State Standards or Maine Learning Results? Is the lesson providing differentiation for the diverse group of students in my classroom?
