8 Mile Creek Designs is an Etsy shop run by the father-daughter team of Ruth Hawkins and Wendell Pohl. Wendell is the restoration guy, reworking antique hubcaps into clocks that rival most modern and retro clock designs out today. Ruth works with him and runs the shop as well as having a gorgeous jewelry and weaving site of her own on Etsy called PurpleDesignStudio. 8 Mile Creek, west of Baldwin City, Kansas, meanders through their properties including the family farm where Wendall grew up and worked with his father. In a Featured Seller article for Etsy, Wendell talked more about how he's gone from the farm to USPS to auctioneering and now salvaging and upcycling these classic diamonds in the rough. "Both of my parents grew up on a farm during the depression of the 1930's. They saved things because 'they might need it someday'. They recycled many things before upcycling became a popular term today. It's nice to give something old a new use." "I was employed off the farm for 36 years with the US Postal Service in Lawrence, Kansas, retiring in June of '06. People ask me what I do with my time now and I jokingly tell them, 'I haven't stopped working; I'm just under new management'. Currently I'm an auctioneer with a local auction business and my wife clerks for them also." 39
