Teacher Exchange What Is It That Creates Positive Culture? Debbie Poffinbarger Abraham Lincoln had a talent for humor and storytelling. This talent allowed him to lighten tough situations and entertain in discreet situations. Laughter is said to be one's best medicine. Ellen DeGeneres would say it is dance; yet, when most dance, laughter comes into play. One pioneer in laughter research, William Fry, claimed it took ten minutes on a rowing machine for his heart rate to reach the level it would after just one minute of hearty laughter (Fry, W., 1979).
