As I think about what to write for my final "Letter from the President" I find myself reflecting on how I came to this position. I have long been a member of Illinois ASCD. I joined for the same reasons many of you do - to learn, to keep up-to-date on educational trends and to get a broader perspective of the profession. I also found I enjoyed meeting with other like-minded educators - teachers and administrators who are passionate about their work and willing to share with colleagues. Even as a young educator, (or especially because I was young and inexperienced) I knew I needed to continue my education and widen my circle of colleagues because teaching is such complex work. Whether I worked in the inner city or in a suburb with high poverty or in a middle class district, I found the staff dedicated, earnest and collaborative.
