Article by Michael Helander, Curator and writer of the blog, Blue Velvet Chair One of this year's featured artists has a passion for public space installations reminiscent of color-rich guerrilla knitting and yarn bombs. Ina Olavarria is the master of weaving and knotting 'as is' recycled clothing to create color bursts in otherwise drap, monotone, or concrete-ridden urban spaces. Artizen spoke with Olavarria who told us, "My purpose as a recycled clothing textile artist is to make a statement about the excessive consumption of clothing today." Not only does she succeed to convey her message, but she also does it in a way that leaves a trail of color-hugged happiness. 31
