A Letter from the President Quick Links Dee Ann Schnautz, President dschnautz@mtv80.org In this edition of the Illinois ASCD Journal, we are broaching the topic of educator burnout. Let's face it, education is an incredibly rewarding field, but it also comes with many pressures. Some of these pressures are beyond our control, some within our control, and some are self-imposed. This edition bridges several valuable perspectives on this topic. According to an article in Bored Teachers, there are ten major factors that contribute to burnout. They are state testing, salaries, multiple jobs, homework, bureaucracy, meetings, technology, class size, budget cuts, and blame. In an article by NEA Today, they address the issue from two different perspectives…is it burnout? Or is it demoralization? Doris Santora's book, Demoralized: Why Teachers Leave the Profession They Love and How They Can Stay, shares much more detailed answers on 6 Successful Assessment Video Series 10 Trending 17 Whole Child 32 Book Review 36 Resource Corner 41 The Perfect Storm 47 Illuminating Educator Burnout 51 Fit Leaders' Lifestyle 56 Events Report 58 Upcoming Events SPRING 2019 | VOLUME 65 | NUMBER 1 | PAGE 3
