Turns out that prior to engineering better ways to bring produce to the urban marketplace, Ben studied sculpture, getting his BFA from Clemson and also served as a combat engineer during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I asked him a little more about the sculpture, curious to see how these pieces had come together in his most recent project. "I do conceptual installation art periodically when I have time. A lot my earlier work referenced my transition period from Iraq and getting assimilated back into my daily life here in the States. Recently, my work has a less direct tone to it but my techniques of taking everyday objects and re-purposing them to fit my intentions are still common in my work."
