Here's what the New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia said, "National Board certification provides so many benefits to teachers, students and schools. National Board-certified teachers are working together to shape educational policies and practices at the local, state and national levels. Teaching, more so than any other profession, determines our futureā€”and I have made lifting up the teaching profession a priority. That's why we continue to work to ensure that New York educators are aware of the far-reaching benefits National Board certification brings to a school community, and to support those teachers who seek this extraordinary certification any way we can." NYSED Shanker Grant will defray the $1,900 NBPTS application costs for eligible teachers. The grant will also reimburse districts up to $500 for providing educators supportive services such as a substitute for attending the writing institute, or paying for a facilitator, or paying a registration fee for workshops. The four components required in board certification need to be submitted within 3 years, but can be done in any order. If you would like to begin candidacy, we recommend taking Foundations and then any of the components you wish to pursue during this school year.
