18 SOCIAL STUDIES Join New York State United Teachers (NYSUT ) Social Studies Subject Area Committee in understanding the development and implementation of the Enduring Issues Essay, and their application to social studies curriculum and instruction at the elementary and secondary levels. This two day session, will provide participants will the opportunity to work with teachers throughout New York State in understanding the changes in social studies assessment, and their impact on curriculum and instruction. Participants use content level materials to develop Enduring Issues Document sets that reflect the skills shift in curriculum and instruction, as well as strategies for implementing the documents sets within their classrooms. The conference will cover areas like ready for lifelong learning, engaging careers, and active civic life.
